Our Mission:
"To Serve God, Love People, Spread the Gospel Message
Minister To Each Others Needs as Disciples of Christ.”
The Zion Experience
Zion Baptist Church was founded on July 1, 1891, by eighty-one persons who came together to worship in unity from Third Baptist Church in Petersburg. Sister Rosemond Smith, named Zion Baptist Church.
Throughout its history, it has progressed through various stages of development and has served as a visible and active fellowship within the downtown Petersburg area. In addition, it has stood as a refuge for religious and community activities and as a beacon light to individuals who are seeking Christ and Christian fellowship. As a member of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia and the American Baptist Churches of the South, along with some other Baptist churches within the Commonwealth of Virginia, and also within several other states and countries, Zion holds membership within Missions and Ministry Focused organizations.

We have great preaching and teaching, great music, and a variety of ministries through which persons of all age groups may become involved as a means of honoring and serving the Lord in preparation for eternity! There are many opportunities for service within the church and within the community as we seek to minister where the needs exist and welcome others to worship God with us.
~Our Vision~
"Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”
~Matthew 28: 19-20, (GNT)
